Pollinator fans, we need your help! It’s the end of the wildflower season so the Fort Field meadows have been cut and baled by a contractor. But the next important step is to go over the ground with this strange machine (a mechanical scythe) to cut even lower. And then rake up all the cuttings. This process helps more light to get to the earth to germinate dormant seeds, increasing the number of wildflowers next year.
Many hands make light work when it comes to raking up the cuttings so if you can spare an hour or two, please come to the Morley Chapel end of Fort Road at 10am this Sunday (17 August) with a pair of gloves and a spring tine leaf rake (if you have one).
